Musik 21 Festival 2009 „FARBEN“

in the Garden Region Hannover 13-16 August 2009

Colours – Gardens – New Music

Building on the success of the 2008 festival in Lüchow and Winsen/Luhe – with highly diverse performance formats, also in public spaces – this year’s Musik 21 Festival is the annual climax and stretto of the collaborative activities with our partners in the Musik 21 Niedersachsen network. State-wide and international projects, new works and joint ventures revolve around the theme of colours, and the venues themselves will reflect this theme: the gardens of HannoverHow do the gardens of Hannover sound? The 2009 Musik 21 Festival is among the flagship projects of the year-long ‘Green Stages’ programme of events in the Garden Region Hannover, with which the festival has been coordinated. Artistic interventions and projects are carried out at the various performance venues that both consult and involve the genius of the place. Arts events enchant audiences of all ages in Herrenhausen’s Berggarten, at the Maschsee lake, in Mariensee cloisters, the  Eilenriede city forest, the Stadtpark or outdoors at Hannover Congress Centrum. Artists and ensembles create mazes, musical interactions, installations and sonic tours with a fascinating stroll or cycle excursion. The ‘Colours’ programme fills indoor spaces such as the smaller radio concert hall at NDR state broadcasting house, the round hall at Hannover Congress Centre and Ballhof I at Hannover playhouse, while the spectrum ranges from new music through improvisation, electronic music and discourse to garden parties, late-night club concerts and pyropoetic park music.

The Musik 21 Festival takes place this year in the state capital, Hannover, under the patronage of Niedersachsen’s Prime Minister Christian Wulff.
