How does your music sound, in your head and when played by profes-sionals?

The Young Composers Workshop, a new module in the Musik 21 Niedersachsen programme, is a forum for encounters and dialogue between practising young composers interested in the possibilities of New Music. Under professional guid-ance, works are analysed, participants’ own compositions presented and re-worked culminating in a rehearsal performance by professional musicians to bring the music in the head to life.
Courses, seminars and workshops are devised to encourage the individual skills and talents of each participant, addressing both composition and performance aspects.

Insights of working methods and theories, and professional guidance, have so far been given at the workshops by:

•    Benjamin Lang, Young Composers Workshop artistic director, lecturer in composition at the Institute for the Encouragement of Young Talent at Hannover University of Music and Drama, in music and listening analysis at Bremen University of the Arts, and in music theory at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences
•    Johannes Schöllhorn, professor of composition and head of the Institute for New Music at Hannover University of Music and Drama
•    Wolfgang Rihm, composer
•    Sidney Corbett, musician, composer and conductor
•    Carsten Hennig, composer
•    Stephan Meier, percussionist, artistic director of Das Neue Ensemble and Musik 21 Niedersachsen
